Indiana education has bucked a trend, this time in a positive way.

The average Indiana ACT score rose slightly as compared to last year. The average composite ACT score for Indiana’s 2024 class was 23.3. For the class of 2023 it was 22.9. Both scores were above both the regional and national averages.

This rise is in contrast to the ACT national average which saw a slight dip from 2023 to 2024. It is also in contrast to the recent analyisis of Indiana’s SAT scores which have also declined inline with their own national trend. Experts have blamed most of the downturn on COVID era school closures and learning loss. The most recent graduates we have solid data for were freshmen during the pandemic.

The ACT (American College Testing) test is one of the premier college entrance exams along with the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). The purpose of the exam is to give a common reference point to college admission officers as curriculum and school quality varies greatly from place to place.
