Governor-elect Mike Braun dropped his first term agenda earlier this year. It relfects many of the priorities that he campaigned on as well as priorities that he showed duing his tenure as senator.

More School Choice:

Bruan is proposing an expansion of its school choice programs to offer universal access to educational options for all families in the state. The plan includes broadening programs such as the Choice Scholarship Program, public school open enrollment, and Education Scholarship Accounts, as well as removing income and geographic restrictions from the Choice Scholarship Program. Additionally, it calls for doubling the funding for Education Scholarship Accounts.

Increase Teacher Pay:

The proposal includes raising the base salary for public school teachers, offering higher pay for high-need subject areas, and implementing performance-based bonuses tied to student outcomes. Teachers would also gain more flexibility in health insurance, with the option to choose between local health plans and the state employee health plan.

Address Teacher Shortage:

The plan includes investing in programs like Transition to Teaching, which offers expedited pathways for career changers with bachelor’s degrees, and reducing barriers for out-of-state teachers through certification reciprocity and license portability. The plan also emphasizes using data from the Educator Supply and Demand Marketplace to identify and target high-need areas and implementing accountability metrics to improve educator preparation programs.

Anti-CRT and Gender Identity

In keeping with his congressional stance Bruan will be agians CRT and Gender Identity. He wants to create institutional safeguards to ensure that public school instruction focuses on curriculum-based materials and excludes topics such as Critical Race Theory and gender identity.

Some of these initiatives have bipartisan support but in a Republican super marjority Mike Braun will have the oppourutnity to pass all of his priorities
